The Roots and Remedies to Terrorism and Violence
One key block to develpment anywhere in the world is violence and terrorist acts. These acts are premeditated actions by man to destroy or annihilate. There are overtones of frustration, revenge and deep sense of hatred and hurt exhibited by the propagonists.
I see the origins of terrorism and violence even in the microcosmic experiences of violence, hatred and jealosy we may experiences in our homes and our local societies. We have much to learn from the little problems and tensions that people experience in community life, which is continually and in the long run kept unaddressed or taken care of. The resultant frustrations and negative feelings get bundled up into the unrelenting mode of violence and destructive tendencies.
This thread is inspired by sundar, chenthil, and atman’s discussion in the marketing posts recently. I thought that their quality of comments on dreams, health, life, balance, rules could be chanelled into addressing certain problems that we all experience in our societies. May’be our discussions could have an answer to the long pending scourge of violence and terrorism in our societies. Gandhi succeeded in his ‘experiments with truth’. Martin luther has a thing or two to share on the subject. I hope to in the next two weeks do a lot of work in addressing the ’Roots and Remedies to Terrorism and Violence’ in more detail. I’m sure that the subject requires a multi-pronged approach to collecting our solutions. Because we talk about primarily human behaviour while attempting such investigations, we may have to address the related issues and problems with a lot of care, compassion and understanding.
I look forward to the bloggers on this thread to share their mind with lots of openness and hope.

I think u started this blog deliberately, for us to discuss about the philosophical & ethical issues !!! Thanx. i had the guilty feeling of discussing about those things in the marketing area.
Philosopher J.krishnamurthy said “World Chaos is the projection of induvidual chaos”. i think this terrorism is also one such thing. it needn’t necessarily be one induvidual’s chaos, but a collection of similar chaos among a small group of people.
i think the root causes for these are human’s endless wants. Every human being has a bit of sadistic mentality in him. Some have more of it, and ergo it bcomes evident to others. But these terrorists have sadistic attitudes which are suppressed inside them, as the society does not encourage such attitudes. But as soon as they find somebody who encourages such attitudes, they form a group. They form or adopt a principle which satisfies their attitude and give their lives for it.
Eg: The islamic terrorists have adopted the Quranic verse “Anybody who wages war against Allah and His rasul, let his left hand & right leg be chopped off….. A Qafir is bound to perish…. If your enemy does not will to continue fighting wit u in a battle, drive him to a place of security and make him a believer of Allah……… If u fight and die for the sake of islam, heaven is guranteed for u” etc etc…. i do not know whether the words “let” & “bound” gives the believers the authority to kill the Qafir, but they’ve taken the authority, assuming that they are the Sons of Allah.
As u can see, the islamic terrorists have chosen to follow only certain verses of Quran, which satisfies their sadistic mentalities. They have neglected the philanthropic verses of the Quran as they are difficult to follow. They do Namaz 5 times a day, bcoz it is not very difficult.
These terrorists use all these misinterpretations to brain wash young minds, who, when grows up, cannot stop following those misinterpretations, as the ideas were engraved in his mind 24×7, and also that, he believes that his activities are done in order to please the most supreme being.
Even other kinds of terrorists follow more or less the same pattern. They go to a place. They fight to occupy the place. Conquer it. Make a mess out of that place. Then spread. If they are left to pervade, they destroy the whole world, till nothing is left.
!!! A similar organism follows the same pattern as them – VIRUS !!!
The terrorists are a disease in this planet. A plague on Earth. Its high time that a cure is found to this disease.
I think that the remedy is : to stop dividing people into groups [unless the division is meant for competition] and promote a feeling of oneness.
An induvidual can get a feeling of oneness only if there is an external threat. Eg: An induvidual may fight wit his siblings, but he unites wit them if his neighbour attacks any one of them. In the same way, Keralites help keralites, muslims help muslims, indians help indians ___ all wen subject to external threat. So violence among humans can be avoided only if human Beings are made aware of a threat to humanity !
i don think that would be possible, but the feeling of oneness can be created atleast within the country, A country wit no divisions among people based on caste, creed, religion etc A religion, which is The principle of a man, should be followed by him only. he must not be allowed to form groups in the names of temples?churches?mosques etc……. The principles can be taught in schools, as philosophies.
These ideas are surely subject to alteration, and though i’ve got a little more to build on it, i couldn’t do it now, as it is midnight and the browsing centre’s owner verbally attacking me.

Your solution for terrorism is the plea for unity among man. This may look elusive but man has evolved ways to be together in so many ways. The institutions we have in our societies related to family, educational centers, governments are meant to help man evolve into communities which does more of service than otherwise. Temples and other units of worship are different styles created by communities to regulate itself and choose an ideal path. There will always be confusions in the development process towards reaching perfection and godliness. Until that state of perfection is achieved by man in his/her soul, emotion, mind and body, there will be disturbances in the homeostatis. Terrorism is one such disturbance created by the affected and hurt among our society. The perpatrator of any disturbance in relationships between individuals is also equally responsible for disturbing initiates taken by terrorists. The terrorists just continues the next lap of spreading hatred and violence, like the orginal sinner who may have even innocently contributed to the triggering of a crime in an angry altercation or a vengeful or hurtful comment made on another. Many little ‘hurts’ snowball into a volcanoe which reach terrorist proportions.
Avoidance or prevention of a religious practice or a code of life, is not necessarily a lasting solution. However concerted and sustained efforts taken to reform the criminal minded, corrupt practioner, mental pollutants, avaricious, greedy, jealous, and other types of maladies in our society, is the need of the hour.
We need more Atman’s to address this issue threadbare.
We need to understand the dimensions of Terrorism and Violence better.
After listing out the dimensions of Violence, we need to search for indicators for each dimension of violence and terror activities.
The resultant scenario will help us understand this theme better and provide solutions to our society with more confidence. That way this discussion will not be just an intellectual exercise, but also action oriented.

I never told that Religion as a code of life should be banished. I told that the philosophies of religions should be taught as a subject in school, and not as a cult. The subject can contain about wat jesus revealed, wat mohammed had to preach and wat the vedas had to say etc… By this, the students will have a profound knowledge about the codes of life, and they will not stubbornly confine to one particular religion, which came through ancestoral practises. he will have the option to choose wat to follow, by understanding the effects of each philosophy in a religion. As u say, worship units alone cannot help a man to follow an ideal path. And one cannot follow an ideal path without being exposed to other paths.
But religion is not followed as it should be followed. Instead of following wat the religion said, people try to posses the religion and create an identity for themselves. A man cannot be called a Doctor, until he qualifies to be one. Qualification is based on his learning about the subject. Same is for all learning. And the same should have been for religious learning. But why is a baby [if belonging to a christian family] called a christian as soon as he is baptized ???? The baby does not even know who The Christ is! (may be the child will be confirmed as a Christian after he does his classes during his teenage. But he is taught only about the life of Jesus, method of worshipping, but never wat to follow strictly, as per the instructions of christ. it is because, the christians of today’s world have just assumed that “a mere struggle to follow His laws are enough. believing in Him is all wat matters”, but actually it is totally contradictory to the bible.) And how can even an adult call himself as christian, wen he has never even read the bible [even if read, they hardly understand the parables and as christ said THEY HAVE EARS BUT CANNOT HEAR]
Therefore it is the religious practises as a cult which causes a hatred among people. Each community starts to rank itself, by comparing wit others, and the basis is mostly Religions. It is this religious practise which leads to a lot of communal violences, segregation among people etc… it is this practise which bans inter_caste & inter_religious marriages [Me too a victim]. Instead of acknowledging a Man as a Man, they acknowledge through religion, rather religious practises which does not help a man in his philanthropic development.
The temples were built in those days because almost all people followed the same religion [even there they had clashes due to segregation as Vaishnavites and saivites, which is totally illogical and stupidity to the core, because both believe Vishnu & Shiva as Supreme Gods. Do the vaishnavites hate Shiva ??? Definitely not, but they do hate those who are saivites]
Thus division, mainly in religions [based on religious practises] is a cause for violences, and not a service to the society. The Christian missionaries served even the non_christians because they gave importance to christ’s laws, rather than catholic practises.
Dunno whether im correct in my view or not, but i surely can learn a lot through these discussions. Thanx to u professor.
